Two days in Rome covers the two non-negotiables — the ancient core and the Vatican — if the bookings are made before you fly. Everything between them is free, walkable, and best at dusk.
At roughly €130 a day, the trip runs about €260 excluding flights. Two timed entries (Colosseum+Forum, Vatican Museums) are the entire advance load.

Day One: The Ancient Core
Colosseum's first slot, the Forum's valley, Palatine's viewpoint — all before the heat peaks. Afternoon siesta, then the free evening circuit: Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon at dusk, dinner in Monti.
Day Two: The Vatican & the River
Vatican Museums' early entry (Sistine before the crowd river), St Peter's if booked, then the afternoon crossing Ponte Sant'Angelo. Trastevere for dinner — the lanes reward getting lost.
