Four days makes Athens a base rather than a stop: the classical core takes two days, day three goes to the National Museum's vaults and the city's hills, and day four is the fork — a Saronic island day by ferry from Piraeus, or Delphi's mountain sanctuary by bus.
At roughly €95 a day, the trip runs about €380 excluding flights. Athens is Europe's cheapest gateway to island-hopping — the ferries start at Piraeus, a metro ride away.

Days 1–2: The Classical Core
Our 3-day itinerary's arc: the Acropolis at opening, the Acropolis Museum, the Ancient Agora, Plaka's lanes, and the National Archaeological Museum's bronze Zeus. Sunset from Mount Lycabettus both evenings if the legs allow.
Day 3: The Museums & the Hills
The National Archaeological Museum properly (it deserves half a day), Kerameikos' ancient cemetery, and the Anafiotika island-village lanes above Plaka.
Day 4: The Fork
Island day: the Flying Dolphin hydrofoil to Aegina or Hydra (Piraeus is 20 minutes away). Mainland day: Delphi's sanctuary on the mountainside, 2.5 hours by bus. Both are honest days — pick by sea-leg or mountain-leg preference.
