City introduction
Borneo's Sabah gateway, beneath Mount Kinabalu. Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah on the north-west coast of Borneo, facing the South China Sea with the Crocker Range behind it. The city's landmarks are its seafront sunset, the hilltop City Mosque standing over the Likas lagoon, and the islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, five of them within a 20-minute boat ride of the harbour. Mount Kinabalu, at 4,095 metres the highest peak in Malaysia and South-East Asia's tallest between the Himalaya and New Guinea, rises 90 km inland.
