City introduction
Ethiopia's highland capital, home of Lucy and the Entoto hills. Addis Ababa sits at 2,355 metres in the Entoto hills, making it the third-highest capital in the world. The National Museum holds the 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus skeleton known as Lucy, while Holy Trinity Cathedral contains the tombs of Emperor Haile Selassie and the patriots of the Italian occupation. Merkato is the largest open-air market in Africa, and the eucalyptus-covered slopes of Mount Entoto rise directly above the city.
