Ghana's Atlantic capital, with the Jamestown lighthouse and Black Star Square. Accra faces the Gulf of Guinea from a stretch of Atlantic coast that holds both the colonial-era Jamestown and the independence monuments of Black Star Square. The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park marks the resting place of Ghana's first president, and Makola Market is the commercial heart of the city. The city is also the main gateway to the Cape Coast and Elmina castles, the largest of the West African slave-trade forts, three hours west.
